God’s Trumpet’s Calling
(Intro)
The distant mountain range
Looms like a tidal wave
Frozen in time, and we must climb.
Where faith is found there’s danger
From which you’ve been saved.
I hear the sound…
God’s trumpet’s calling.
(Verse 1)
In the Year of our Lord Jesus
We struck out from yesterday.
And with our wagons pointed Westward,
One last time we knelt to pray.
“God, our Father, Fate is with Thee,
Guide our footsteps on the way.
You spread the starry skies.
Help us to realize,
We’ll stand the test of Faith
Or we will falter and we’ll stray.”
(Verse 2)
Verse by verse my mama told me,
Read the Bible every day.
And the lessons that it taught me
surely helped us along the way.
We were five families when we started
On this pioneer crusade.
First we were starry-eyed…
(pause)
Then some left…
And others died…
(pause)
Sometimes to persevere a heavy price there is to pay!
(Bridge)
The wheels of the wagons were sinking down I n the mud.
And the wolves and the wildcats all were calling for our blood.
Raging rivers to cross where lives were lost!
O, Lord…heed our prayer.
With disease and such hunger struck down.
O, Lord…are you still there?
(and I could hear my mama singin’ sweet and low)
(Chorus)
The distant mountain range
Looms like a tidal wave
Frozen in time, and we must climb.
Where faith is found there’s danger
From which you’ve been saved.
I hear the sound…
God’s trumpet’s calling.
(Verse 3)
Step by step we stuck it out
Through doubts and deserts,
Straits and storms.
And our trials made us tough as leather,
And, in the winter, they kept us warm.
And when we scaled that final mountain,
In all God’s glory, on display…
A valley, far and wide…
Some laughed…
And others cried…
(pause)
What fortune was revealed
unto the faithful on that day.
(Chorus)
The distant mountain range
Looms like a tidal wave
Frozen in time, and we must climb.
Where faith is found there’s danger
From which you’ve been saved.
I hear the sound…
God’s trumpet’s calling.
I hear the sound…
God’s trumpet’s calling.
I hear the sound…
God’s trumpet’s calling.
