The Song of Hopefulness

An Empty Seat at the Table

(Verse 1)

Snow falls late in November.

People rushing in the city streets and countryside.

Sweet aroma of the fireplace

and the mountain scent of pine

With hot apple cider,

and her beau beside her.

Children dancing, singing.

Deck the halls and flood the shopping malls

Blanket of moonlit snow.

And all is calm.

But somethin’ sure ain’t right.

I hear the sound of the sleigh bells

The infant king in the stable.

But there’s an empty seat at the table again.

(Chorus)

Old folks napping

And gifts in wrapping

To give is better far than to receive.

Children’s laughter,

And Happy Ever After.

Red Velvet Bows hung with holly leaves.

Starlight from up on top of the tannenbaum.

Until we meet again, shall I believe?

I sense your presence near.

It comes this time each year.

My special blessing on Christmas Eve.

(Verse 2)

Laughter makes me remember.

And so I spell your name

In the frost on the window pane

And I pretend it’s all a dream

‘Til it begins to stream

Like teardrops.

Fathers, Mothers,

Sisters, and Brothers.

I can’t believe that it’s been years since you went away.

Memories never seem to fade, fade.

“All is calm,” I hear the angels say,

But somethin’ sure ain’t right.

I hear the sound of the sleigh bells

The newborn king in the stable

But there’s an empty seat at the table again.

An empty seat at the table!

(Chorus)

Old folks napping

And gifts in wrapping

To give is better far than to receive.

Children’s laughter,

And Happy Ever After.

Red Velvet Bows hung with holly leaves.

Starlight from up on top of the tannenbaum.

Until we meet again, I *shall* believe!

I sense your presence near.

It comes this time each year.

My special blessing on Christmas Eve.

Starlight from up on top of the tannenbaum.

Until we meet again, I *shall* believe!

I sense your presence near.

It comes this time each year.

My special blessing on Christmas Eve.
